BERNARD SLATTERY TROPHY 29TH APRIL 2018
On the last Sunday in April I suppose you can expect cold dank weather and as we started the first comp of the year on the Eagle playing for a packet of vintage Woodbines in the Bernard Slattery trophy, the weather didn’t disappoint. Neither did the turn out as 20 players braved the elements. Having played down to the semi finals, one half consisted of Dobbies players and the other the Eagle. Jeff Ogden and Barry Hartman had a real ding dong game with Barry narrowly winning, the other game saw Martin Mc Bernie ( a recent recruit to the game), playing handicap specialist Phil Berry. It was clear Martin wanted to banish his image of being a “ rabbit “ at the game, even if he generally wins it each Thursday, as he stormed to a 21 to 10 victory. In the final Martin leads two “real uns” in the corner, Barry reaches and hits the head and claims one . Will that effect Martin, No, Head down he strode to a great victory 21 to 10 his first handicap win. Thanks to all for a great turnout if your in the Prestwich league and your reading this check out our comp dates your welcome as are the Dobbies players that were there last week.
